Hello! Day 8 (Wednesday) was a lovely lovely day! We spent the morning touring a world famous Cathedral in Burgos, which took over two hours! The Cathedral is the largest I’ve ever seen. Housing a “cathedral within a cathedral”, the tomb of El Cid, well over 30 small chapels, over 20 saint relics, and much more. It was truly unbelievable to witness! I’ll have a few photos to share, for sure!

After going through the Cathedral we met with a lovely couple from Belgium for lunch. We have been running into them almost daily over the last few days – and more often than not we run into them at Mass. We had amazing ‘pinchos’, aka tapas, and shared about our homes and families. Did you know that in Belgium they stuff raw tomatoes with tiny shrimp? I had no idea but I’d love to try it! It is such a neat experience to meet someone only a few days prior and next thing you know you’re laughing and sharing a meal, showing pictures of back home and wishing you didn’t have to say goodbye!

We didn’t leave Burgos until around 2:00pm, and had a 13km walk. We’ve learned that we really don’t like starting later than 8am, so this was a bit tough. Normally we arrive places by 2:00pm, so we were certainly dragging our feet a bit. It was a warm, sunny, windy day, and made for good conditions overall. I had a fantastic nap on a picnic table while my Dad walked ahead. My ability to sleep anywhere really comes in handy for these trips.

Eventually we reached Rabé, where we settled in around 6:30pm. After dinner we got to participate in Vespers (evening prayer) at the monastery in town. The religious Sisters were such a JOY to be with. They were so excited to have pilgrims visiting (as they usually do), and gave us all miraculous medals as we left. They prayed for us and made us feel so loved. One Sister was holding onto me for a long time, pinching my cheeks and telling everyone she thought I was an angel, haha! My Dad then mentioned I’m his daughter, and they all got so excited to hear we are doing this together. It was a really lovely experience, and it’s exactly what we try to see and do while on the Camino.

We are moving ahead well, and excited for what’s to come. On Thursday we begin the section of the Camino called the Meseta. More on that later..

Much love!
